Learn: Chart of Accounts
PART VII โ ACCOUNTING ยท Educational Guide
The Core Idea
Jake's farm is a filing cabinet. The chart of accounts is the labelling system โ every drawer and folder numbered so that any transaction can be sorted instantly. Without it, receipts and invoices pile into chaos. With it, every dollar has a precise home.
How It Works
The chart of accounts groups every account into five families: Assets (1000s), Liabilities (2000s), Equity (3000s), Revenue (4000s), Expenses (5000s). Numbers let software sort entries automatically and leave gaps for inserting new accounts without renumbering existing ones. Every journal entry references at least two account codes.
